How do I set up a Base?

Created by Mica Roberts, Modified on Fri, 10 Jul at 1:23 PM by Mica Roberts

Each worksite requires one SitePoint configured as a stationary Base. The Base broadcasts location information to Rover SitePoints. Rovers move around the site taking measurements, either on a pole or on a machine. Any SitePoint can be configured as the base.

To set up a Base:

  1. Place a SitePoint in a stationary location with an unobstructed view of the sky.

  2. Press the power button once

  3. Once the lights turn on, press the power button twice to initiate base mode.

  4. Purple lights indicate base mode

  5. Fast flashing (4 per second) purple lights indicate the base is acquiring its position information

  6. Slow flashing (1 per second) purple lights indicate the base has successfully acquired its position and is broadcasting corrections

Pro Tips:

  • Do not have your base next to a large structure or under trees. It needs a clear view of the sky to connect to satellites.

  • Rovers should be within 1000’ of a base.

  • Line of sight is not necessary for a rover to receive corrections from a base, but heavy obstructions may limit the range.

  • Make sure only one SitePoint is configured as a base at a jobsite.

  • You do not need to put your base in the same location each day as long as you use a control point.

  • Bases must remain stationary during each work session.
